OfferedAbhyangam: Oil is applied on head and body followed by gentle massage by trained therapist. It's done as a single treatment and as preparation for or along with major treatments.
It can be done for a day or more as prescribed by the physicians to suit individual conditions.
Sirodhara: Sirodhara is uninterrupted flow of prescribed fluid t-medicated oil (tailadhara), milk (Ksheeradhara) or buttermilk (takradhara) to the head in a special way. Oil massage is given to the patient along with dhara.
Udvartanam : The treatment involves application of selected herbs through vigorous rubbing from head to toe. It's the Ayurvedic way of toning the body and reducing weight. It keeps the skin glowing and helps dissolve excess fat.
Snehapana: It means drinking the sneha or the unctuous material like ghee (clarified butter), seasame oil, animal fat or marrow. Ghee is most commonly used. This helps in destabilizing the doshas (causative factors for diseases). Swedana (inducing perspiration) that follows make the destabilized doshas to flow to the intestines for elimination.
Pizhichil: The treatment is developed by the physicians of Kerala based on the combination of snehana and swedana. It's done as a main treatment for various muscular, skeletal and neurological conditions.
Kizhi: Kizhi means bundle. A type of swedana treatment, kizhi is meant to induce perspiration. Bundles are made out of herbal powder, leaves and special variety of rice. It's used to treat inflammatory and degenerative diseases and as preparation for cleansing.
Dhara: This treatment is a process in which medicated oil, milk, butter milk, etc., are poured in a continuous stream on the patient's head, in a prescribed manner. Dhara alleviates fatigue, lack of vitality, improves memory and restores the equilibrium of Doshas.
